Selfish
watercolour, gouache
The inspiration behind this piece stemmed from a moment of introspection when I grappled with feelings of selfishness for desiring more attention from my parents. Understanding my role as a middle child, compelled to be self-reliant, I recognized the natural inclination for them to devote time to my younger sibling who captures their attention naturally as their only son and older sister, who possesses a more charismatic demeanor. Consequently, this piece was crafted and presented to them with the covert intention of concealing its underlying sentiment.

"Due Date"
Acrylic on canvas, wooden poles
This piece symbolizes the pressure faced by secondary 4/5 students to make critical decisions about their future education and career paths at a young age of 16/17. The imagery of wooden poles conveys a sense of confinement, illustrating how students may feel restricted and compelled to conform to the predetermined educational trajectory without the opportunity for dissent.

“Help”
Acrylic on canvas, cotton, yarn
This artwork symbolizes the disillusionment caused by insincere expressions of love and affection from others. Despite being surrounded by superficial sentiments, the rare instances of genuine love, though piercing like pins, serve as a compelling motivation for perseverance.

"Look Away"
Acrylic on canvas, featuring clay elements
This artwork symbolizes the anguish stemming from the relentless pursuit of perfection to meet external expectations. The depiction portrays mental stability as the figure of a pink girl, contrasted with the representation of greed embodied by the green girl. The use of nudity signifies that this struggle is a personal experience, allowing for an unfiltered display of their vulnerable and flawed aspects. The inclusion of clay eyes serves to illustrate the anxiety induced by external pressures, compelling one to conform to an idealized standard of flawlessness.

“Good Mourning”
40cm by 30cm
Acrylic on canvas, White pen, Colour pencil, Pearls
This artwork was inspired by a recurring character from my lucid dreams, a girl who accompanied me on various adventures. When I acknowledged her existence as a mere creation of my mind, she reacted with a piercing gaze, her eyes gradually drooping. In a haunting tone, she screamed at me, questioning why I ruined this illusion for her. Her skin melted into herself from her excessive tears which caused her to liquify and fall to the floor.
I experienced sleep paralysis that very morning, encountering her unsettling presence in the corner of my room, adorned with her distinctively beautiful white hair.
My objective in creating this piece was to evoke a mystical and dream-like ambiance, capturing the essence of the eerie drooping eye that left a lasting impression on me.
Also, to make cute work to distract myself from the fact that it actually really scared me a lot....

“Heartbreaker”
This artwork is a visual narrative depicting the detrimental impact of love on an individual, portrayed through various symbolic elements representing different scenarios of emotional turmoil.
The central focus of the artwork is a mouth, painted in shades of blue to signify profound sadness, representing the overarching theme of the piece. To the left, a black swollen eye symbolizes the physical and emotional abuse endured within a relationship. The bruising serves as a stark reminder of the pain inflicted by those who claim to love. Adjacent to the bruised eye, a split tongue emerges, resembling that of a snake. One side of the tongue is painted purple, reflecting the anxiety caused by manipulation and deceit, while the other side is painted green, representing the disgust felt upon discovering lies and betrayal. Beneath the mouth, yellowed teeth signify neglect, both of oneself and of the relationship. The decayed teeth serve as a metaphor for the erosion of self-worth and neglect of one's own needs in the pursuit of love. Lastly, nails are depicted, symbolizing the act of staying together despite the toxicity of the relationship. These nails represent the clinging onto familiarity and the fear of being alone, even in the face of ugliness and pain.
Each element within the artwork contributes to a poignant portrayal of the destructive power of love, illustrating the various ways in which it can ruin an individual both emotionally and psychologically.

“Just Big Ribs”
Digital Painting
This piece is a deeply personal exploration of my experience with an eating disorder during adolescence. Inspired by my struggles at the age of 14, the artwork delves into the internal turmoil and distorted body image that characterized this difficult period.
The ribs of the figure are prominently featured, exaggerated in size and spacing to emphasize my distorted perception of my own body. Each rib is depicted with meticulous care, stretching outwards to occupy more space, a visual representation of the attempt to blame perceived "fat" on "big bones."
